International Award Winner
Wedding & Family Specialist
Owner of Australia's First Rainforest Studio
Robert Bignell has more than 30 years photographic experience. His love of photography started at 10 and in his early 20's he traveled around Australia on a photographic expedition before packing his 90cc motorcycle onto a ship and heading off to trek through South America.
Next he moved to the US to study professional photography in New York. It was in the US where he photographed his first wedding - 1971 in Dubois, Wyoming - an experience that was to shape his life.
"Weddings have a life of their own. Each is unique and I'm able to capture
that as an artistic observer rather than a director or manipulator," Robert says.
In 1972 he returned to Australia to start a full time career in photography, quickly developing a reputation for capturing the naturalness and spontaneity of his subjects.
After five years working from his car, he opened his first studio in 1977 in Abermain. Then in 1981 he bought 40 acres at Brunkerville and set about establishing Australia's first rainforest studios.
Robert won numerous National and International prizes (including the prestigious Kodak International Newspaper Award) in the early days of his career . He built such a reputation that he became a National Judge for the Institute of Australian Photographers.
